The IOC has entered into a long-term partnership with the NOC of Saudi Arabia. The kingdom is set to host the first Olympic E-Sports Games.

Saudi Arabia is set to host the first Olympic E-Sports Games and become a home for the event, with which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is seeking to attract the favor of young people. As announced by the IOC on Friday, the premiere of the so-called Olympic Esports Games 2025 is set to take place in Saudi Arabia.

The partnership with the National Olympic Committee of the controversial kingdom in human rights matters covers twelve years, and the E-Sports event is set to take place “regularly” within this timeframe, according to the IOC.

Through the partnership with the Saudi NOC, the IOC has also “ensured that Olympic values are respected, especially in terms of the game titles in the program.

Olympic Esports Games: Vote in July

The IOC Executive Board decided in mid-June to establish the Olympic Esports Games, and the proposal will be presented to IOC members for a vote at the 142nd Session (July 22-24) in Paris. If the delegates give the green light, the city, venue, timing, qualification process, and other details will be determined. Accepted forms of E-Sports for the IOC include virtual sports and sports simulations.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee, expressed his country’s excitement about the prospect of collaborating with the IOC to usher in a completely new era of international sports. Saudi Arabia takes pride in paving the way for a new chapter in Olympic history that has the potential to inspire millions of athletes worldwide with new dreams and ambitions.

In Saudi Arabia, with a population of nearly 37 million, there are approximately 23 million gamers, stated Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, with half of them being women.

Saudi Arabia continues to accelerate as a host of sporting events. The hosting of the 2034 FIFA World Cup in the country is considered secure, and Saudi Arabia is already making a significant impact in motorsport, boxing, and tennis.
