Konami announces the return of eSports with eFootball.

Konami’s “eFootball” is once again on the rise. After the latest patch breathed new life into the title, eSports is celebrating its comeback.

The virtual ball is slowly starting to roll again. Following the long-awaited and much-needed update for the PES successor eFootball, publisher Konami is now looking to revive the eSports scene as well. The Japanese company announced plans for a new competitive competition in a press release.

eFootball Championship 2022: Kick-off in June

After renaming the Free-to-Play title, Konami has decided to give the revamped format a new name as well. The official eSports competition, which will determine the world champion, will now be marketed under the prestigious title “eFootball Championship 2022” and will replace the eFootball.Pro League. The kick-off is set for June.

What stands out in particular is the planned division, which aims to provide an incentive for all player classes. While ambitious amateur gamers can showcase their talent in the Open division, eSports players from European football clubs will compete in a separate professional league. There is no information available yet on the schedule and the starting lineup. However, a timely announcement is in the works.

Focus on Dream Team Mode

Nevertheless, the two Championship series share an important commonality. The “Dream Team” game mode, which was added with the last update and essentially takes over from MyClub, is not only a response to the success of FIFA Ultimate Team but also the foundation for the competition. Just like its predecessor, users can build their dream team and develop it over time.

Within the mode, players from all over the world compete against each other in one-on-one matches. The better one performs in the online matches, the more points they receive, ultimately ensuring promotion to higher leagues.

At the end of the season, the question of the best player is settled at the “World Finals.” The only requirement for participating in the Opens is to take part in the corresponding in-game events. There is no need to register for the first round, which begins in early June
